Welcome to Students Defender
Preventing and effectively addressing sexual harassment of women in colleges and universities in Pakistan is a significant challenge. A systemwide change to the culture and climate in our nation’s colleges and universities can stop the pattern of harassing behavior from impacting the next generation of women entering science, engineering, and medicine.
Female harassment in Pakistan is becoming more common in universities, as thousands of harassment cases have been reported in universities. Teachers in the universities have unlimited authority and use their powers to exploit students, especially female ones.
According to Dukhtar foundation, a non-government organization, they have received more than 20,741 complaints, astonishingly, 16981 complaints – 82% of the total – were filed by female students of different universities. The complaints received from the universities are regarding professors/lecturers’ sexually harassing female students.
In some cases, the university harassment committee members were also found involved in harassing students, so normally the female students hesitates while approaching the university harassment committee as they usually protect their colleagues.
Kashmala Tariq, Federal Ombudsman for Protection against Harassment, while sharing her views in an event, she said that a major cause of harassment in universities is the semester system which empowers the teachers to exercise unlimited influence.
Whether you are facing Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Hazing or Abusive Behavior or Sexual Misconduct or unjustified disciplinary action by your campus, you have the right to defend yourself and protect your future.
